Session IDs can be used by instructors (and those with at least TA-Grader level permissions) to discern when learners had multiple sessions within a quiz attempt. This is one tool that can be used in conjunction with others to help in identifying academic dishonesty.
- On the Manage Quizzes page, click the arrow to the right of your quiz and select Attempt Logs from the drop-down menu.

The Attempt Logs page provides detailed information about events during a quiz attempt, including quiz entry and re-entry times, and quiz completion, and can be filtered for each of these.
- Click Detailed to open the Detailed tab. This detailed view of the attempts logs includes a Session ID column that can be used to identify when a learner has used multiple sessions within a quiz attempt for any quiz activity after May 30, 2025.

- To export the Detailed attempt log, click the Export CSV button.
IMPORTANT: When reviewing a Quiz Attempt Log, the presence of multiple Session IDs does not indicate cheating has occurred. There are valid reasons multiple sessions may appear. This information is intended to support your investigation and should be evaluated in context, alongside other relevant data.
Actions that will trigger a new session ID:
- If a student logged into another device during the quiz, it will be considered a different session.
- If a student closed the browser, or if the student’s device crashed or Internet connection failed, and the student re-entered the quiz, it will be considered a second session.
- If a student entered the quiz a second time using a different browser than the first time or a private window, it will be considered a second session.
Actions considered part of one session:
- If a student had the quiz open in multiple tabs of the same browser, all activity in the open tabs will have been considered as one session.
- Changes in IP address (for example, starting the quiz then enabling a VPN) does not change the session ID.
